In-person meeting: presentation on Carnevale di Venezia

Come and join Laura Parisi as she shares her travel experiences in Venice, Italy during Carnevale. The term means “Carnival” in Italian, and comes from the Latin carnem levare, which literally means remove the meat. Specifically, Carnevale was the last occasion for meat consumption, as people abstained from it during the following forty days of Lent. It has become a colorful festival and for those who like to dress up or photograph costumed people, a trip to Carnevale di Venezia is one you would probably not want to miss.

Laura grew up learning photography next to her father in the family photography studio and darkroom. She learned photography on his Rolleiflex cameras, photographed her first wedding at 16 years old with her own Pentax K1000, then began photographing events for the Branford Review. Her photography hobby continued through college and continues today. Photography has brought Laura and her husband Bob to many places they would otherwise never have traveled, such as Iceland, Italy, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Banff, and Jasper National Park as well as many more.

Zoom Meeting: IMAGE DESIGN – Using the Principles of Design to Create More Dramatic Photos

Jennifer King

Join us on May 28 as we hear a presentation by internationally-acclaimed, award-winning landscape and fine art photographer Jennifer King. She will discuss how photography is a journey; it’s about the destination and its uniqueness, the world at its best.

Jennifer began her career in the advertising arena – first as a designer, then a creative director, and eventually (but quickly) moved into directing photography. In these years she learned how much design principles played a part in creating effective images. Understanding how the principles of design affect our visual response to an image can help us to communicate with our photos and is the key to improving our photography.

Jennifer is a landscape and wildlife photographer based in North Carolina with over 20 years in the photo industry as an instructor and “Wildlife Whisperer.” Her lifetime passion for teaching photography, exploring the world and discovering new locations to photograph has gained her photographic acclaim. Her images and articles can be found in top resources such as Outdoor Photographer, and she has appeared as speaker at events such as NANPA’s 20th Anniversary Summit.
